Enquiring Minds Wanna Know.....

Why haven't we had our own Winograd Commission over here?

That's rhetorical question, right?

A pretty good answer to this question is here.

As you probably know, there is no way such a commission would be taken seriously by the administration, or treated as anything but a political football by anybody else. Given the toxicity of the political culture -- which belongs to both Republicans who have internalized Malcolm X's "by any means necessary" and the Democrats, who seem to believe anything done by post-Ford Republicans is definitionally illegitimate -- maybe the Isreali model is something we should look at.

Because Israel is in a life-or-death struggle where mistakes matter. The Bush Administration just wants to stick it to the liberals and FOX News will fellate them no matter how it works out.

Our system of government is different from Israel's - it is not a parliamentary system. We had a referendum on President Bush's policies in 2004, and those policies were endorsed by a solid majority of Americans. President Bush has a popular mandate and he should not be shy about exercising it.

Dear nabalzbbfr,

I'm glad you agree on the power of electoral mandates.

Sincerely,
Hugo Chavez

Nabalzbbfr: If what you say is true about electoral mandates, (and 51% is an awfully thin mandate) did not the 2006 elections repeal that mandate and give the country another one? Not to mention all the opinion polls which show Boy George to be as popular as the Plague with two thirds of Americans? Unless of course you believe like Hugo Chavez in the permantance of a particular electoral mandate over all others?
