August 23, 2007Self-Awareness Watch"I'm afraid a bloggerish tendency toward sarcasm, in-group lingo and a proclivity to write in haste and a degree of anger got the better of me here." Can we agree this serves well as an excellent general disclaimer, of sorts, one if I had the technical know-how I'd place prominently under the B.D. masthead, or something, by way of fair warning to readers who stumble upon this site? In the meantime and as a mea culpa, I promise to try to ban the use of the word "clerisy" in this space going forward.... Posted by Gregory at August 23, 2007 11:07 PMComments
Yes, more clerisy bans please. Posted by: Eric Martin at August 24, 2007 04:42 PM | Permalink to this commentOK, no "cl**isy." But the debate is useful. I would be most interested in your take on the "inherent goodness" issue raised in the Greenwald-Cohen debate. I found the comments on the Democracy Arsenal post (“Dissecting Greenwald”) incisive. Is Michael Cohen's naivete on this symptomatic of the reality-based (non-neo-neocon) sector of the FPC's seeming inability to grasp the extent to which neocons (and their opportunistic allies) have hijacked (not to say criminalized, e.g. Elliot Abrams) the foreign policy apparatus and the media's coverage of same. I understand the many wing-nut versions of exceptionalism, but where or by whom in the FP literature is the idea recently and authoritatively articulated that our FP sins against our own stated values (and interests), even when acknowledged, are absolved because we are an inherently good nation full of very, very good people? BTW, Kudos to Cohen for engaging with his critics, some of whom were less than civil (for good reason, IMHO). See MY disclaimer, above. GD - If your using Wordpress it's just a matter of modifying a couple of files(header.php & style.css). This can be done manually, feed or with script. BrainyQuotes(http://www.brainyquote.com/link/index.html) has this link to add a daily quote to your website. It can go anywhere, header or sidebar. Email me if you want some help.
