Barghouti Out
Good news. A schism within Fatah would not have been helpful at this juncture. This development increases the chances of forward movement on the peace process in the coming months.

Why not? Do you hope that Abbas will be able to lead a unified Palestinian people to a negotiated settlement? Not gonna happen.
Frankly, I think the best result would be for the Palestinians to have a REAL election. One with at least two legitimate contenders (and Bargouti was at least semi-legitimate, even if he was in an Israeli jail). Then the voters could at least begin the process of holding the elected leader accountable for the results. Long term solution, I know. But the quick-fix with Abbas negotiating a settlement with Sharon really won't solve anything, because I doubt that most Palestinains will accept it.
